13 Assassins is a 2010 Japanese period action film directed by Takashi Miike, starring Kōji Yakusho, Takayuki Yamada, Yūsuke Iseya, and Gorō Inagaki. It is a remake of the 1963 Japanese blackandwhite film of the same name, and is set during the mid19th century, in the Bakumatsu period. The story follows a group of thirteen assassins who are hired to kill a cruel and sadistic lord in order to prevent him from ascending to the throne and plunging Japan into a wartorn future.

The film received critical acclaim, with praise for its action scenes, direction, acting, and production values. It was nominated for various awards, including the 2011 Japan Academy Prize for Picture of the Year, and won the awards for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, and Outstanding Achievement in Costumes.
