“Barfi!” is a Bollywood romantic comedy-drama film released in 2012, directed by Anurag Basu and produced by UTV Motion Pictures. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Ileana D’Cruz in lead roles.
The film tells the story of Barfi, a deaf-mute boy who falls in love with Shruti, a girl from a wealthy family who is engaged to someone else. However, due to societal pressure and her family’s disapproval, Shruti leaves Barfi and marries her fiancé. Barfi then meets Jhilmil, an autistic girl, and the two become friends. Barfi eventually falls in love with Jhilmil and tries to protect her from those who wish to exploit her.
The film was critically acclaimed and was India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards, though it did not get nominated. It received numerous awards and nominations, including several Filmfare Awards, and was praised for its performances, direction, music, and screenplay.
