Bolt is a 2008 American computer–animated comedy–adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the 48th Disney animated feature film. The film stars the voice talents of John Travolta, Miley Cyrus, Malcolm McDowell, Diedrich Bader, Nick Swardson, Greg Germann, Susie Essman, Mark Walton, and J.P. Manoux. The film tells the story of a white German shepherd named Bolt (voiced by Travolta) who, having spent his entire life on the set of a television series, thinks he has superpowers. When he is accidentally shipped to New York City, he embarks on a cross–country journey to get back home and reunite with his owner, Penny (Cyrus).
Bolt was met with generally positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, grossing over $310 million worldwide. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, but lost to Walt Disney Pictures‘ own WALL–E. The film‘s success led to the 2012 television series spin–off, Bolt and Penny.
