“Broken” is a 2012 British coming-of-age drama film directed by Rufus Norris and written by Mark O’Rowe. The film is based on the play “Broken” by Daniel Clay.
The movie tells the story of a young girl named Skunk (played by Eloise Laurence) who lives with her father Archie (played by Tim Roth) and her older brother Jed (played by Bill Milner) in a small town in England. Skunk’s life is turned upside down when she witnesses a violent incident involving her neighbor, Mr. Oswald (played by Rory Kinnear), and the three teenage daughters of the town’s thuggish bully, Bob (played by Denis Lawson). As a result of the incident, Skunk finds herself caught in the middle of a web of deceit and violence.
The film was critically acclaimed, with particular praise given to the performances of the cast, particularly Eloise Laurence in her debut role as Skunk. The movie received several award nominations, including for Best British Independent Film at the British Independent Film Awards.
