Casino Royale is a 2006 spy film and the twenty–first installment in the James Bond film series produced by Eon Productions. It is a loose adaptation of Ian Fleming‘s novel of the same name and stars Daniel Craig as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. The film follows Bond as he is assigned to bankrupt terrorist financier Le Chiffre in a high–stakes poker game at the Casino Royale in Montenegro. The film also stars Eva Green, Mads Mikkelsen, Judi Dench, Jeffrey Wright and Giancarlo Giannini.
The film was critically acclaimed and grossed $594 million worldwide, becoming the highest–grossing James Bond film until the release of Skyfall in 2012. It was nominated for several awards, including two Academy Awards, two BAFTA Awards, and two Golden Globe Awards. Casino Royale was released on November 17, 2006 in the United Kingdom and on November 22, 2006 in the United States.
