“Cowboys & Aliens” is a 2011 science-fiction Western film directed by Jon Favreau and starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde. The film is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg.
The film is set in the late 19th century in the town of Absolution, Arizona, where a mysterious stranger (Daniel Craig) wakes up with no memory of his past and a strange metal bracelet on his wrist. As the town is attacked by aliens, the stranger teams up with the town’s sheriff (Harrison Ford) and other townspeople to fight off the extraterrestrial invaders.
The film received mixed reviews from critics and was a box office disappointment, grossing $174 million worldwide against a budget of $163 million. While the film’s premise and visual effects were praised, its plot and characters were criticized as underdeveloped. Nonetheless, the film has gained a cult following among fans of the science-fiction and Western genres.
