Escape Plan (2013)

“Escape Plan” is a 2013 American action thriller film starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, directed by Mikael Håfström, and written by Miles Chapman and Jason Keller. Stallone plays Ray Breslin, a former prosecutor who co-owns Breslin-Clark, a Los Angeles–based security firm specializing in testing the reliability of maximum security prisons.

The storyline revolves around Breslin, who is framed and incarcerated in a prison of his own design. Inside, he meets Emil Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger), and the two team up to devise a daring, almost impossible plan to break out of the world’s most secret and secure prison.

The film features a supporting cast that includes Jim Caviezel, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Sam Neill, Vinnie Jones, Faran Tahir, and Vincent D’Onofrio.

Though it did not fare very well critically, it did well commercially and has since gained a cult following due to the pairing of action film legends Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Due to its success, it has spawned two sequels as of my last training cut-off in September 2021: “Escape Plan 2: Hades” (2018) and “Escape Plan: The Extractors” (2019).

Duration: 115 min.
