“Get the Gringo” is a 2012 action thriller film directed by Adrian Grunberg and starring Mel Gibson. The film tells the story of a career criminal known only as “Driver,” who gets caught by the Mexican police after a high-speed car chase and is subsequently thrown into a tough, overcrowded prison known as “El Pueblito.”
Once inside the prison, Driver must navigate the dangerous and corrupt environment while also trying to get his hands on the millions of dollars he stole before he was captured. Along the way, he forms a bond with a young boy named Kid, who also lives in the prison with his mother.
The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Gibson’s performance and the gritty, fast-paced action sequences. However, some criticized the film’s lack of originality and its reliance on familiar genre tropes. “Get the Gringo” was released direct-to-video in the United States but was a commercial success overseas.
