“Iron Man 2” is a 2010 superhero movie directed by Jon Favreau and starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, the genius billionaire inventor and CEO of Stark Industries who also dons a high-tech suit of armor as the superhero Iron Man.
The movie picks up shortly after the events of the first “Iron Man” movie, with Stark struggling to balance his duties as Iron Man with his responsibilities as the head of Stark Industries. He is also facing pressure from the U.S. government to turn over his technology, and dealing with a new villain, Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke), who seeks revenge against Stark and his father.
The movie also introduces several new characters, including Scarlett Johansson as the Russian spy Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow), and Don Cheadle as James Rhodes (aka War Machine), who replaces Terrence Howard in the role.
“Iron Man 2” features impressive action sequences and special effects, as well as the charismatic performance of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. However, some critics and audiences felt that the movie was overstuffed with too many plotlines and characters, and lacked the freshness and originality of the first “Iron Man” movie.
Despite some mixed reviews, “Iron Man 2” was a commercial success, grossing over $600 million worldwide. The movie also helped to set the stage for the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, with references and appearances from other Marvel characters, and a post-credits scene teasing the upcoming “Avengers” movie.
