“Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox” is a 2013 direct-to-video animated film adaptation of the 2011 comic book crossover “Flashpoint” by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert. It is directed by Jay Oliva and is the 17th film in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series.
The story begins with the Flash (Barry Allen) waking up in a drastically altered DC Universe. In this new timeline, the Justice League does not exist, and Barry’s own powers are non-existent. Here, Aquaman’s Atlanteans and Wonder Woman’s Amazons are engaged in a global war that has ravaged the planet.
The Flash must team up with a grittier, more violent Batman (who is Thomas Wayne in this universe, as Bruce Wayne was the one who was killed in the alley that fateful night) and restore the original timeline while dealing with the fact that everyone he knows has altered in this timeline, including himself.
The film is noted for its darker tone and more mature content compared to other entries in the series, aligning with the original “Flashpoint” comic’s themes. It was well-received by fans and critics alike, praising the complex storyline and character development, particularly of the Flash. The film’s success led to more adaptations of famous comic book storylines in the animated DC Universe.
