Killer Elite is an action thriller film released in 2011, directed by Gary McKendry and starring Jason Statham, Clive Owen, and Robert De Niro. The film is loosely based on the real-life story of a group of former special forces operatives who are recruited to carry out assassinations on behalf of a mysterious client.
Jason Statham plays Danny Bryce, a former member of the British Special Air Service who is recruited by a shadowy figure known as “the Handler” (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) to eliminate three former SAS operatives who have gone rogue. However, Bryce soon discovers that he has been set up and that he is being hunted by a rival group of assassins led by Spike (Clive Owen).
The film received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the action sequences and the performances of Statham and Owen but criticized the film’s convoluted plot and lack of character development. It grossed over $62 million worldwide and was a moderate commercial success.
