Letters from Iwo Jima is a 2006 war drama directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Ken Watanabe. It is a companion piece to Eastwood‘s earlier film Flags of Our Fathers (2006), and tells the story of the Battle of Iwo Jima from the perspective of the Japanese soldiers who fought in it. The film follows the letters written by the soldiers to their families and loved ones, providing an insight into their thoughts, motivations, and fears. The film was critically acclaimed and was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. It was also nominated for several other awards and won several, including the Golden Globe Awards for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Score.
