“Paddington” is a 2014 live-action animated comedy film directed by Paul King and written by King and Hamish McColl. The film is based on the character Paddington Bear created by author Michael Bond.
The film tells the story of a young anthropomorphic bear from the jungles of Peru who is sent to London after an earthquake destroys his home. The bear is found at Paddington Station by the Brown family, who name him Paddington and offer him a temporary haven. Paddington, voiced by Ben Whishaw, tries to navigate life in the city while avoiding the attention of a museum taxidermist, played by Nicole Kidman, who is interested in Paddington as a new exhibit.
The film also features Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, and Jim Broadbent in supporting roles. “Paddington” was praised for its charm, humor, and the warmth of its story. The film was a commercial success and has been followed by two sequels, “Paddington 2” (2017) and “Paddington 3” (upcoming).
As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, “Paddington 2” holds the record for the most reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (a review-aggregator website for film and television) without a single negative review, highlighting the popularity and acclaim of this franchise.
