Shutter Island (2010)

IMDb 8.2

“Shutter Island” is a 2010 psychological thriller directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, and Ben Kingsley. The movie is based on a novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane and is set in 1954, on a remote island off the coast of Massachusetts that houses a psychiatric facility for the criminally insane.

DiCaprio plays U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels, who arrives on the island with his partner Chuck (Ruffalo) to investigate the disappearance of a patient from the facility. As the investigation unfolds, Teddy begins to experience hallucinations and disturbing visions that lead him to question his own sanity and the motives of the doctors and staff on the island.

The movie was praised for its strong performances, particularly from DiCaprio, and its atmospheric, suspenseful tone. Some critics found fault with the movie’s plot twists and ambiguity, but overall it was well-received and became a box office success, grossing over $294 million worldwide. “Shutter Island” has since become a cult classic and is considered one of Scorsese’s most accomplished works.
