“The Company You Keep” is a political thriller movie released in 2012, directed by Robert Redford, who also stars in the movie alongside Shia LaBeouf, Julie Christie, and Susan Sarandon. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Neil Gordon.
The story follows Jim Grant (played by Redford), a former member of the radical Weather Underground organization who has been living under a false identity for decades. When a young journalist named Ben Shepard (played by LaBeouf) uncovers Grant’s true identity and links him to a decades-old bank robbery, Grant goes on the run to clear his name and reconnect with former Weather Underground members who might be able to help him.
As Grant evades the FBI and tries to track down his former comrades, the film explores the legacy of the radical 1960s and 70s, the meaning of political commitment, and the tension between the desire to create a better world and the violent means some were willing to use to achieve it.
