The Experiment is a 2010 German psychological thriller film directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel. It is based on Mario Giordano‘s novel Black Box and uses the same source material as the 2001 film Das Experiment. The film stars Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker as two of twenty participants in a psychological study of power and control. The study is conducted by a mysterious professor (played by Cam Gigandet) and his team of assistants.
The film follows the participants as they are divided into two groups: guards and prisoners. The guards are given uniforms, strict rules, and absolute authority while the prisoners are stripped of their rights and forced to obey the guards. As the experiment progresses, the participants become increasingly violent and unpredictable, leading to a shocking conclusion.
