The Mauritanian is a 2021 legal drama film directed by Kevin Macdonald and based on the true story of Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a Mauritanian man who was held without charge in Guantanamo Bay detention camp for 14 years.
The film stars Tahar Rahim as Mohamedou, who is accused of being involved in the 9/11 attacks and subjected to torture and interrogation at the hands of the US government. Jodie Foster and Shailene Woodley co-star as his defense attorneys, who fight to secure his release and bring justice to his case.
The Mauritanian received generally positive reviews from critics, with particular praise given to Rahim’s performance as Mohamedou.
