“The Raven” is a 2012 thriller film directed by James McTeigue and starring John Cusack, Luke Evans, and Alice Eve. The movie is loosely based on the life and works of American writer Edgar Allan Poe, known for his macabre short stories and poems.
Set in 1849 Baltimore, the film follows Poe (played by Cusack) as he becomes embroiled in a series of murders that are inspired by his own literary works. The killer, who goes by the name of “The Raven,” kidnaps Poe’s fiancée, Emily (played by Eve), and challenges the writer to solve a series of puzzles to save her life.
As Poe and detective Emmett Fields (played by Evans) race to track down the killer and rescue Emily, they are drawn deeper into a dark and twisted world of Poe’s own creation.
“The Raven” is a fictionalized account of Poe’s final days, and while the film takes some liberties with historical accuracy, it captures the eerie and mysterious atmosphere of Poe’s writing and the time period in which he lived.
