Up is a 2009 American computer–animated comedy–drama adventure film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Directed by Pete Docter and Bob Peterson, and co–directed by Ronnie del Carmen, the film centers on an elderly widower named Carl Fredricksen and an earnest young Wilderness Explorer named Russell. By tying thousands of balloons to his home, Carl sets out to fulfill his dream to see the wilds of South America and complete a promise made to his late wife, Ellie. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, making it the second animated film in history to be nominated for the award, following Beauty and the Beast (1991). It won two: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score. Up also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film. The film was also nominated for six Annie Awards, including Best Animated Feature and won three: Best Animated Feature, Best Music in an Animated Feature Production and Best Storyboarding in an Animated Feature Production.
