War Witch (French title: Rebelle) is a Canadian drama film directed by Kim Nguyen and released in 2012. The film tells the story of a young girl named Komona who is kidnapped by a group of rebel soldiers and forced to become a child soldier in an unnamed African country.
Throughout the film, Komona is haunted by the ghosts of the people she has killed and develops a special bond with a young albino boy named Magician. Together, they attempt to escape from the war and find a new life.
The film stars Rachel Mwanza as Komona and Serge Kanyinda as Magician. It was filmed on location in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
War Witch received critical acclaim and was nominated for several awards, including Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards. Rachel Mwanza won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival for her performance as Komona.
